I feel blessed that my boys love to read. Everything from the latest hockey stats to Harry Potter to almanacs full of strange and bizarre facts. Sometimes this love of reading backfires, like that time they got absorbed in the entire series of Captain Underpants comic books and all we heard for weeks was varying levels of toilet talk. It got so bad we had to temporarily ban poor Mr. Underpants from the bookshelves to reset their vocabularies again.
My sweet cousin surprised the boys one day by giving them The Action Bible. I remember growing up with a comic version of the Bible when I was little. Like many kids, I’d wake in the middle of the night from bad dreams but reading it soothed my mind and helped me fall back asleep with my head and heart filled with bible stories. I’ve sorely regretted not saving it for my own kids.
Now they have their own Action Bible to grow up with and I could tell by the way their eyes lit up that it was love at first sight. It’s become our nightly routine to soak up the wonderfully illustrated stories together. I can barely get them to put it down. How strange it is to have to threaten the kids because they can’t stop reading the Bible and go to bed?! Regardless, it’s been a wonderful addition to our family nights.
So if you’re looking for a great bible for kids and something to bond over, this is one highly recommended book!
